Gwyneth Paltrows Hangover Remedies
First Published: December 31, 2011 7:59 PM EST Credit: Getty Premium LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Gwyneth Paltrow arrives at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 18, 2011New Years Eve celebrations are about to kick off and Gwyneth Paltrow is offering up some solutions for a common New Years Day affliction the hangover! Gwynnie gathered advice from Dr. Frank Lipman and Dr. Oz Garcia, as well as her local London pharmacist, and benevolently passed the info along to her subscribers in her GOOP newsletter this week. We all know what happens on NYE so here is our best to help you prepare for the day after, she wrote, along with a scientific explanation for what causes the dreaded post-party blues. Among the Contagion stars tips (along with the commonly known preventative measures such as taking aspirin, drinking water and eating something before going to sleep), try indulging in a bit of hydrotherapy. If you have the time and the inclination, Ive found that the best hangover remedy can be a hot and cold spa treatment, Gwyneth suggests. Ive been known to recreate this experience at home too. Just draw a bath that is as hot as you can handle it and mix in some Epsom Salts and Baking Soda, she continued. Soak for twenty minutes and then pop into a freezing cold shower for 1 minute. Get back in the hot bath and stay until youre warmed up. Then get back in the shower for 1 more minute. If that remedy sounds a little too complex for your liking, the 39-year-old beauty suggests drinking Mercy elixir. Gwyneth who likes their product so much she became an investor in the company claims the drink is packed with amino acids, vitamins, minerals and herbs that protect your system against the inevitable hangover and that flush you can get from drinking. You can drink it alone or mix it with alcohol to create a hangover preventing cocktail, she added. Additionally, Gwyneth suggests taking Milk Thistle capsules to help your liver cope with cocktail overload, or the classic early morning Bloody Mary. Perhaps the least healthy choice, but sometimes unavoidable - at times, just a little of last nights poison does the trick, she added. The actress is no stranger to hangovers back in September, the Oscar winner revealed she had overindulged at her 39th birthday party and was paying the price. Nursing a horrific hangover at the jfk, she Tweeted at the time. Nothing like starting an overseas flight dehydrated. Where is the dog, I need the hair. Copyright 2012 by NBC Universal, Inc. Tom Sizemore Writing Memoir About His Battle With Drugs
Tom Sizemore was on a roll in the '90s in films like 'Heat,' 'True Romance,' and 'Saving Private Ryan,' but a cocaine and heroin addiction derailed his promising career. Now, the actor will tell the story of his rocky road with drugs in a new memoir, due out in 2013. "I should have been dead many times over," Sizemore said. "The fact that I'm now sober over two years -- and that I'm acting as much as I did before -- proves that people can overcome obstacles even when they're sure they can't. I hope that this book can inspire other people to never give up." In the book, which he'll write with journalist Anna David, Sizemore will share his tough childhood growing up in a Detroit housing project, romances with stars Elizabeth Hurley and Sharon Stone and his lowest point: A stint in prison for domestic abuse against then-girlfriend Heidi Fleiss. Sizemore developed a pattern of cleaning up for major movie roles, then relapsing. He was soon known more for his headline-making misbehavior than for his films. A starring role on the TV series 'Robbery Homicide' didn't last, and he was soon starring in another series: 'Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.' Sizemore has managed to stay sober since graduating from the reality show. He's made guest appearances on 'Hawaii: Five-O' and has a number of films in post-production. A 2009 appearance on 'Southland' as an out-of-control movie star was a nod to his colorful past. [via Deadline] [Photo: Getty] Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook

AFM stays in Santa Monica
The American Film Market will remain in Santa Monica through 2017, spurning attempts to move the beachside film market to downtown Los Angeles. The Independent Film & Television Alliance said Thursday that new agreements will keep the AFM at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, its home since 1991, with the confab continuing to employ additional exhibition space at JW Marriott's Le Merigot Beach Hotel and with conferences continuing at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows."We tirelessly explored every option to ensure the AFM would have the best long-term home," said IFTA chairman Paul Hertzberg in a statement. "We look forward to many more successful markets with the beach as our backdrop." IFTA had confirmed in September that it was negotiating to relocate the 2013 AFM to L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. The association pointed out in September that relocating to downtown Los Angeles would mean lower hotel and exhibition costs for both buyers and sellers and better screening venues at the Regal Cinemas and Nokia Theater -- and that by 2014, there will be more hotel rooms surrounding L.A. Live than in the Loews Santa Monica area. But the prospect of a move from Santa Monica provoked resistance at last month's AFM, including an online petition signed by reps of IFDC, Artists View, Constantin, UFO, W2 and Imagem and asserting that a downtown location would restrict participants' ability to meet easily. "This will divide participants who will have to run all day long in order to attend to their meetings," the petition said. "This will simply be exhausting, not to mention creating a more stressful environment generally. And, as a consequence, participants may choose to shorten their stay, which will deeply affect the business of the market. A less competitive market will lead to less attendance and, ultimately, to the extinction of the market."The petition also noted that the Independent Spirit Awards tried in 2010 to move from Santa Monica to downtown L.A. but then moved back to the beach last year."We do not want to be parked in soulless spaces in the middle of a crowded downtown L.A.," it said. "We want to meet and do our business serenely if possible. Comfort and prestige are the keys to a successful market."IFTA president-CEO Jean Prewitt said Thursday in statement, "Our stated goal from the start of this process has been to provide the best environment, resources and value for the world's buyers and sellers and, after long and careful deliberations, we believe remaining in Santa Monica will achieve all of those goals." IFTA noted in the announcement that Santa Monica will be "transformed" by a variety of public improvements and development projects that will significantly enhance AFM including the following: AMC Entertainment's cinema complex with 12 screens, including an Imax theater, will open in late 2014 or early 2015. The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium will be rehabilitated and expanded, providing a venue for red-carpet premieres and expected to be completed in late 2014. At least 700 hotel rooms will be added to the downtown area, including mid-priced hotels from Marriott and Hampton Inn. A light Metro Rail terminal at Fourth Street and Colorado Avenue, a five-minute walk from the Loews, is expected to be operational in 2015. A seven-acre park on Ocean Avenue directly across from the Loews is scheduled for completion in late 2013 along with an adjoining new mixed-use urban village with restaurants and shops for 2014.Dates for the upcoming AFMs are Oct. 31-Nov. 7, 2012; Nov. 6-13, 2013; Nov. 5-12, 2014; Nov. 4-11, 2015; Nov. 2-9, 2016; and Nov. 1-8, 2017. IFTA said that research from the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates that the AFM will contribute more than $100 million to the local economy over the next six years. This year's market saw the number of buying companies rise 8% to 718 from 664 in 2010; buying executives increased 7% to 1,523 vs. 1,417 a year ago; and overall attendance climbed 4% to 7,988 vs. 7,695 in 2010. NY - Charlie Ergen's Dish Network is one of the winners of Friday's $3.6 billion wireless spectrum deal announced by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and a smaller cable operator with Verizon, according to analysts. Dish shares rose 6.6 percent to close at $26.21.our editor recommendsCharlie Ergen Steps Down as President, CEO of Dish NetworkGoogle plans to bid for wireless spectrum Ergen previously bought spectrum, and analysts have long wondered what satellite TV giant Dish would use it for. While some have predicted Ergen could sell the spectrum or parts of it for a profit, others have said that Dish could use the spectrum to offer broadband and online video services. Wells Fargo analyst Marci Ryvicker calculate that the cable companies will get $0.695 per megahertz per pop, a common measure of price for spectrum, in value for their so-called AWS spectrum. "Applying this to Dish's [MSS and 700 MHz] spectrum gets us a $10 billion value, or roughly $22 in equity value, which is clearly not in Dish's stock price," she said. BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk in a report spoke of "Ergen's emergence as wireless' power broker." He wrote: "In the future, spectrum buyers will have to negotiate a deal with the likes of Charlie Ergen and Dish Network, whose strategic value has risen dramatically." He said that Dish paid only $0.25 per MHz per pop to buy DBSD and TerreStar spectrum. One potential buyer of Dish's spectrum is a telecom giant whose planned acquisition of a competitor has been called in question by regulators, Piecyk said. "Dish would be a good alternative for AT&T if the T-Mobile deal is not approved," he said. Meanwhile, Friday's Verizon spectrum deal news is also good for Comcast and TW Cable "as it answers the question 'what is the wireless strategy?' and negates the fear of a wireless build," Ryvicker said. Piecyk listed Dish competitor DirecTV under the deal's losers though, saying it and others will "face increased pressure to address their spectrum needs." Said the analyst: "DirecTV's strategic options are declining and could continue to diminish in 2012." Email: Georg.Szalai@thr.com Twitter: @georgszalai Related Topics DirecTV Dish Network

On the eve of the films release, Awardsline contributor Ari Karpel spoke with Taylor (who goes byJim) and Burke (who goes by Burke) about the films favorable festivalstart, editing at Clooneys Lake Como villa, and why Taylor sat out the writingof this one: AWARDSLINE: FoxSearchlight optioned the book The Descendants for your productioncompany, Ad Hominem, about four years ago. Tell me about the process thatfollowed. JIM BURKE: I read a manuscript that was sent tous by a literary agent in London. I forwarded it to Searchlight. I think the agent who sent it to us, alsomailed it to a number of production companies like ours since there was a lotof interest from the competition.Fox Searchlight acted quickly on our behalf to acquire the option on thisbook before we had fully decided who would even direct it. Jim and Alexander atthe time were writing an original screenplay called Downsizing which was intended to be Alexanders next film todirect. So we figured The Descendants would be our next picture to produce at Ad Hominem and we proceeded along thoselines. We went out and looked for screenwriters to adapt the book and arrivedat Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. They did a terrific job but it became clear at somepoint along the way that Downsizing was going to be too big a movie, and take too long to be ready. Alexanderbecame more anxious about starting a production shoot and we realized it wasgoing to take longer to get Downsizing made. He became more and more attracted to Descendants and he decided, Ill take this one on. Because he decided that it could bedone more in the style that hes used to, with very little green screen. AWARDSLINE: DidAlexander take the script that those guys had written and start revising it? JIM TAYLOR: No. They wrote a great script, butthe way Alexander works is he needs to make what he directs, his own. He wentin and made it more personal for himself. AWARDSLINE: Soyoure saying that no matter how good their script was, he had to throw it outand start from scratch in order to write in his voice and make it his own? And theresthat WGA rule, as there always is, where they get credit as well. TAYLOR: Yeah, and they wrote a great script, but that is exactly whathappened. AWARDSLINE: JimTaylor, why didnt you collaborate on this script as you have with Alexander inthe past? TAYLOR: This is a little less comedic thanour other collaborations, so this didnt feel right for me. Together we tend towrite more comedy and the plot of this was more emotional. AWARDSLINE: The filmreceived a good response at festivals. How important is it to launch themarketing at a festival like Telluride? TAYLOR: I dont know. I think that if its a strong movie, no matter where itemerges, its still strong and people talk about it, whether its Sundance,Toronto or Telluride or whatever.Tellurides such a great festival to be at. Its such a filmmaker-oriented event. We likeit because its easy to see films there. AWARDSLINE: Its sohard for an adult drama to get attention now.It seems like a festival like that really helps it. TAYLOR: Definitely, it does.AndFox Searchlight, you know, theyre some of the only people really making movieslike that anymore, so were incredibly lucky to have our home there. BURKE: And I think that theyre equipped to deal with films that are not easilycategorized. I mean, they have many times in the past. Its not a marketersdream (this movie). A marketers dream is something from a comic book. TAYLOR: But it doesnt hurt to have GeorgeClooney in the movie. In a lot of different ways, not the least of which iswhat a wonderful collaborator he is. But also, I think that if people are justgoing looking for another Sideways, they might be thrown a little bit. So, its nice that the only draw isntanother Alexander Payne movie. Its also that a lot of people go to movies tosee George Clooneys performances. AWARDSLINE: Howdo you divide your responsibilities? Was one of you moreon the ground in Hawaii and the other holding down the fort in LA? BURKE: Aside from being business partners, all three of us are very close friends.I think its safe to say that were always there for each other, whatever we need. Its never been any kind of an issue, like you do this, youdo that. Im not an artist. Jim and Al are, so they have an artistic relationship, but they also value what I do for them and for us; and I, ofcourse, value and highly respect both of them.We just do what comes naturally to all of us. TAYLOR: Yeah, I think the term partnersreally implies whatyou know, were not always doing the same thing, but werea team, and we make sure that everything gets done. AWARDSLINE: Thismovie was edited by your longtime editor Kevin Tent, but I read that it wasactually edited at Clooneys Lake Cuomo villa. Is that right? BURKE: Its sort of right. It was really edited in Santa Monica at our office, but they went over there to his villa for a couple of weeks in the midsummer, just to sort of work and, obviously, hang out with George. AWARDSLINE: Theleading actor doesnt usually host the post-production so does that shift thedynamic a little bit? Dont you need to shut yourself out and make decisionsand not be worried about what the actors going to think? BURKE: Yeah. George, though, is more than just an actor. Not that thats notenough, but hes also a filmmaker himself. He just said, Hey, listen, man, Ihave an Avid in my villa. Why dont youjust come on over and be in Italy for a few weeks and cut it there? He wasnt intrusive at all.All he did was host dinner parties and thingslike that. And when Kevin and Alexander had a little sequence that they wereprepared to show him, they did. AWARDSLINE: Imcurious, of course, about the Oscar campaign for the film. Clooneyis certainly a natural contender; but he also has Ides of March. Is there a bit of a balancing act withthose two? BURKE: Here is how Id say we feel about an Oscar campaign: Its like the way Ifeel about getting on an airplane.Idont pay too much attention to it because I know its out of my hands. I believeweve made a really excellent film and that knowledge alone just edifiesme.I hope other people think that, butits so hard to make a movie that even you like, and often, one of our goalsfor the three of us at our company is to make movies that we like, that we would actually pay to see.I think wevedone it; and whether it wins an Oscar,I dont know whether it will or not.Its hard to know. As for Ides ofMarch, were really cool with George, too.I know that George understands what a great performance he gave in The Descendants. I just marvel at it and I feel like heunderstands that.He has to.Everybodys telling him that.

Is Warner Bros And Basic steps New TV Privileges Agreement A Level For Digital And Distribution Deals?
It will get a little technical, but Warner Bros Television Group and ABC might have cracked the code to solve among the TV industry’s more vexing problems: How should program producers and systems split the privileges to air Television shows asdigital platforms be a bigger area of the distribution mix? They introduced today atwo-year deal that provides ABC larger and clearer possibilities to operate WBTVG shows when they’re hot: ABC may include the shows inside a TV Everywhere, subscription-based online feed from the network that the companies have to say is “currently under development.” The network also offers to constitute to 5 lately broadcast instances of current WBTVG programs — such as the Middle, Arrange It, and Suburgatory – available via VOD the moment the next day of they first show up on TV. They are able to operate on the network’s primary Internet sites, abc.com and Hulu, plus an ABC-top quality VOD service transported by traditional pay TV marketers. In exchange, WBTVG can start syndicating series sooner than previous deals permitted: It may license serialized shows for example Gossip Women that really work on subscription VOD services like Netflix in the finish from the broadcast year where the episodes first air. The studio may also begin syndicating sitcoms and procedural dramas to Tv producers and cable systems after 3 years, lower from four. Since WBTV may be the biggest independent TV producer, “this is type of a level,” states EVP Craig Hunegs. “I don’t think there’s any going back out of this.” He adds that WBTVG is near to finishing an identical, but longer, cope with another network.

Arrivederci, Berlusconi
BerlusconiRome-- Silvio Berlusconi resigned Saturday as Italy's prime minister, ending an anomalous 17-year era in Italian politics marked by the billionaire media mogul's dual role as the country's leading pol and top showbiz entrepreneur.A chorus of Handel's "Halleluia," performed by a professional ensemble, burst out in front of Rome's Qurinale president's palace, as thousands of Italians poured into the center of the Italian capital in a euphoric atmosphere reminiscent of a World Cup soccer victory. On the other side of town, news that Berlusconi had lost his seat of power prompted protracted cheers during a Bob Dylan concert at Rome's Palalottomatica. "Listened to Bob Dylan sing in Rome as Berlusconi finally fell. That felt right," Twittered Salman Rushdie who was at the concert, part of Dylan and Mark Knopfler's European tour.Berlusconi, who lost his support in parliament on November 8 as Italy's economic crisis spiralled, bringing the country on the brink of bankruptcy, stepped down Saturday, ending his third stint as Italy's prime minister. The 75-year-old mogul entered Italian politics in 1994 using his TV channels to publicize his "Let's Go Italy" force named after a soccer chant. He has been distracted lately by sex scandals connected to "bunga bunga" parties and accusations that he paid for sex with a minor, besides corruption charges connected to his Mediaset TV empire, all of which he denies. As markets battered Italy Berlusconi's political popularity had been waning at home as his credbility crumbled abroad. And the current climate has not been helping Mediaset either.Mediaset shares tumbled on Nov. 8 as it posted a 31% drop in nine-month operating profit to 368.2 million ($507.8 million) the day Berlusconi announced that he would step down.Berlusconi's resignation paved the way for Italian president Giorgio Napolitano to appoint former European Commissioner Mario Monti to form a government of non-pol technocrats to push through drastic economic reforms needed to revive Italy's long stagnant economy. As for his political future, Berlusconi for the moment remains leader of Italy's center-right bloc, but said after announcing his resignation that he will not run as premier ever again. Silvio Berlusconi Resigns As Italian PM
Silvio Berlusconi has collected more than his fair share of enemies and controversies in three separate stints as Italy’s prime minister over a 17-year span. And today in Rome the billionaire media tycoon did what his political and media rivals have wanted him to do for years: he resigned. The head of Italian conglomerate Mediaset made true on his pledge to step down after the government finally passed a package of harsh economic reforms designed to keep Italy from defaulting on its $2.6 trillion debt and avoid the market meltdown that threatens to sweep through Europe. Berlusconi handed in his resignation at the presidential palace, where a crowd of thousands had gathered to cheer his ouster, yelling things like buffoon, Mafioso and shame as he arrived, according to the Financial Times. For years, Berlusconi’s rivals in the media industry have accused him of massive conflict of interest running the government that regulates Italy’s media industry, of which he is such a big part; lawsuits, scandals and plenty of brash talk from the outspoken mogul were normal during his time in office. Now, he has said he will not return to government — he had hoped to become president — leaving him time to focus on Mediaset, Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster that also runs Espana Comunicacion in Spain and has a stake in Dutch reality TV giant Endemol among its many interests.

First Released: November 8, 2011 11:49 AM EST Credit: Getty Premium La, Calif. -- Caption The famous host oprah Winfrey talks in the Cable Show 2011 at McCormick Place, Chicago, June 16, 2011Oprah Winfrey states she knows why some balked once the film academy introduced it might offer her an honorary Oscar on her humanitarian contributions. The 57-year-old media mogul will get the exclusive Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award on Saturday in the Academy of movement Picture Arts and Sciences third annual Governors Honours. Once the announcement is made within the summer time, some belittled the academy for selecting Winfrey to get its Hersholt award, that is presented periodically for an individual within the film industry whose humanitarian efforts have introduced credit towards the industry, based on the academys website. Previous readers include Bette Davis, Quincy Johnson, Jerry Lewis and Paul Newman. Experts stated Winfrey goes more to everything about TV compared to film. I understood it because I had been equally surprised, Winfrey stated inside a recent interview. I had been surprised because I'm not referred to as an actress. Ive done film and that i love the flicks that Ive done, but she appreciates the list is not lengthy. Actor James Earl Johnson and makeup artist Dick Cruz may also be honored at Saturdays ceremony in the Kodak Theatre, both receiving Academy awards for his or her lengthy and notable film careers. Winfreys Hersholt award will not be her first academy recognition. She was nominated for any supporting actress Oscar on her role in 1985s The Colour Crimson. She also created and starred within the 1998 large-screen adaptation of Toni Morrisons Beloved and 2009s Precious, which won Academy awards for supporting actress MoNique and film writer Geoffrey Fletcher. I realize people thinking, Wheres her listing of qualifications for films, she stated, however i dont think theres room for critique within the do-good department. Winfrey has led a lot more than $500 million from her personal coffers to charitable causes, academy leader Tom Sherak stated. She established her first charitable foundation annually after starting The The famous host oprah Winfrey Show and is a philanthropist since. In 1998, she produced Oprahs Angel Network, which supported charitable projects and provided grants or loans to nonprofit organizations worldwide. She funds scholarship grants for around 100 students in American colleges, as well as in 2007 she opened up the The famous host oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Women in Nigeria. Winfrey remains deeply associated with the college and itsstudents, who call her Mother The famous host oprah. She travels to Nigeria four or five occasions annually to speak personally using the women and takes calls in the center of the evening to go over their progress and curricula. It is the most tiring factor I actually do, and also the most exhilarating, she stated. I've got a little house there about 1,800 sq ft of the house and from the moment I land the house is stuffed with women. I'm counseling women, feeding women, speaking to women, therefore it never stops. The colleges first senior class is going to graduate, and 100 % seem to be attending college, Winfrey stated with pride, observing theyre the very first within their family to do this. When she last visited, she carried out daily classes for that graduation senior citizens, teaching them everything I needed to understand before I went in to the world, she stated. You realize, about taking responsibility, about not accepting the loan cards, about values, about creating something system on your own and just how integrity is easily the most valuable factor you do in to the world, which without your recognition as well as your integrity you've got nothing, she ongoing. Only then do we spoken about various ways that turns up for you personally. It turns up first using the boys! If she needed to get it done over, she'd certainly took another route, since it is very hard creating an institution for learning, excellence and leadership when you are 8,000 miles away, she stated. However the lengthy plane outings and early-morning telephone calls tend to be more than worthwhile. Im 100 % engaged constantly. Thats very rewarding, she stated. It's a side of me that many people dont realize, that after I leave work, sometimes at 2 each morning, 3 each morning, 4 each morning, Im up. Stedmans going, Ugh, you on the telephone with Africa again? Yep, Im on the telephone with Africa. Its a continuing a part of my existence. Winfrey will get her Oscar in a private untelevised ceremony held in the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood&Highland, just upstairs in the Kodak Theatre, home from the Oscars since 2001. Sherak stated Winfrey is among the most philanthropic entertainers on the planet along with a best example of why this award was produced. The famous host oprah has given and given and given, he stated. Winfrey stated she was delighted when Sherak known as to inform her shed be finding the Hersholt award. Years back, I gave it to Quincy Johnson and that i was honored to become around the stage just giving the award, she stated. To become the person receiving an award thats provided to you for the contributions toward doing something great for the planet or attempting to a minimum of create a mark for any pressure for something thats positive on the planet, I simply dont believe that there is a better recognition than that. 'Puss in Boots' likely to pounce on B.O.
"Puss in Boots" opens day and date within the U.S. and Russia.
The household market, underserved previously five days, could bring large Halloween-weekend B.O. for Vital-DreamWorks Animation's three dimensional toon "Puss in Boots." Precisely how large the take is will rely on if the film can extend its pawprint to auds beyond parents and tykes. Componen needs a bow for "Puss" around the mid-$30 millions, though other B.O. commentators the film could achieve somewhere north of $40 million. Also bowing wide, twentieth century Fox's high-concept actioner "Over TimeInch opens at 3,122 locations, while R-ranked The Actor-brad Pitt starrer "The Rum Diary" launches today at 2,272 Stateside engagements via FilmDistrict. Pre-weekend monitoring indicates "Over Time,Inch called for any $12 million-$15 million opening, comes with an edge over "Diary," which likely will settle at between $8 million and $11 million through Sunday. The new sony might find how effective its scaly-back release plans for Roland Emmerich's "Anonymous," which launches at 265 locations, turn to be. The studio made the decision early a week ago to bow the film in limited release rather than taking a wide rollout. Overseas B.O. will looks to become centered by "The Adventures of Tintin: The Key from the Unicorn," following Vital and Sony's early launch from the film abroad (see separate story). Componen is starting "Puss" day-and-date using the U.S. in Russia, where three dimensional characters, specially the "Shrek" franchise, have shipped large box office. The "Shrek" spinoff, allocated at $130 million, must have considerable Stateside success. The film is poised to exceed previous Halloween weekend record holder "Saw III," which bowed in 2006 with $33.six million locally. Though Halloween usually is not a really large weekend in the box office, the vacation falls on the Monday this season, clearing up trick-or-treaters to go to plexes, though pre-Halloweeen activities will still occupy families. A five-week drought of fresh family fare also bodes well for "Puss." The final family film to bow within the U.S., "Dolphin Tale," opened up to $19.two million, exactly the same weekend as Disney's three dimensional retrofit of "The Lion King," which won in the second outing with $21.9 million. That pic far exceeded industry anticipation throughout its debut frame, scoring north of $$ 30 million and gathering almost $93 million up to now. Both "Lion King" and "Dolphin Tale," having a cume of $sixty five million, achieved positive results from deficiencies in family product on the market, as did DreamWorks' "Real Steel," that has drawn in nearly $70 million since its March. 7 bow. It's unclear just how much three dimensional tests will boost overall totals for "Puss," starting at 2,827 three dimensional locations, or 72% of their total 3,952 engagements. "Lion King" gained 91% of their opening from three dimensional, though that pic was promoted like a three dimensional event. "Puss" likely will discover a similar or slightly better opening three dimensional share as "Dolphin Tale's" 50%. Mostly positive early reviews may help the DWA toon broaden to adult auds. Fox's "Over Time,Inch allocated around $40 million, has most powerful interest among older males over 25, with a lot more support from both males and ladies under 25. From author-director Andrew Niccol, "Over Time,Inch starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, informs the storyline of the near-advanced society where its people don't age past 25. Pic will need to compete for teenage auds with Par's soph-sesh holdover "Paranormal Activity 3," which bowed above anticipation at $52 million. "Rum Diary," which FilmDistrict acquired privileges to last spring, cost you a reported $45 million, created by GK Films. According to Hunter S. Thompson's semi-autobiographical novel, "Diary" should attract fans of Depp in addition to visitors from the late renegade journalist. FilmDistrict pre-tested "Diary" strongly attending college cities, including Austin, Texas, and Berkeley, Calif. In limited release, Componen is starting Sundance's grand jury champion "ConstantlyInch through the studio's Componen Vantage label. Pic opens today at four locations in NY and L.A., having a soph-sesh expansion in to the top ten U.S. marketplaces. Fox Searchlight, meanwhile, grows "Martha Marcy May Marlene" to 32 locations following a effective launch last weekend. Wall Street-designed thriller "Margin Call," from Kerbside Points of interest, is broadening to 140 playdates, a lot more than double the amount pic's opening count. Pretty Little Liars Postmortem: Is Alison a Twin? Is Lucas "A"?
Sasha Pieterse The Beautiful Little Liars Halloween-designed prequel has opened up a couple of more "A" ideas. Was Lucas exactly the same masked guy because the one whom Alison fought against with? Have you spot the face showing Alison has or were built with a twin sister? And what's using the creepy dolls? Take a look at our listing of things we caught and learned in the episode. Everyone's first secretThe episode's title was "The Very First Secret" also it appears that only Alison was allow it to on everyone's: Emily did not really have sexual intercourse together with her boyfriend Ben, Aria's father scammed, Alison changed the ballot count to assist Spencer win class leader and Hanna's mother were built with a run-along with Officer Wilden. Pretty Little Liars star: A brand new "A" suspect arises in Halloween prequel Lucas is really a strong contender for "A"It can be only a huge red-colored sardines, however the entire episode points toward Lucas as being a (who now that we know been around before Alison's dying). First, Alison calls Lucas "Hermie" after he accidentally bumps into her. When she walks away, he mutters, "Eventually she'll get what's visiting her." Through the episode, Alison is terrorized by someone inside a frightening mask and although (obviously) you will find several people putting on this same mask, one of these, in the finish, is revealed to become Lucas. An idea in the books Sasha Pieterse told us to pay for strong focus on the outlet scene where Alison informs a creepy Halloween tale about one twin who stabbed and wiped out her sister on the toy. "She was sent off to a house for that criminally insane where she continued to be until yesterday," Alison states. Later, a vehicle using the words "Radley Sanitarium" pulls up to and including creepy house. Within the books, not just was Alison a twin, but her sister was delivered to Radley when she was considered crazy. See photos from Pretty Little Liars More evidence that Alison is really a twinWe got our first look into Alison's room and when you pause in the right moment, you can observe a brother or sister portrait on a wall. Look carefully also it discloses Jason between twin women. The snow globe returnsToby informs Emily about his stepsister Jenna relocating and inside the truck full of her stuff really are a couple of snow globes. In Season 1, Emily flashbacked for you to get a snow globe from Alison, which eventually held the important thing towards the storage unit in which the women situated the memory stick that contains the footage of these. And thus does the video camera First, we have seen Alison and Ian accidently record one another while Melissa and Spencer are upstairs. Later, Jason informs Alison he's creating a movie so when she inquires how it is about, he states, "Basically said, I'd need to kill you." Finally, in the party, Ian turns up towards the party continues to be pointing his trusty camera. And ironically he and Melissa are outfitted as Bonnie and Clyde, a duo famous for running in the truth. Watch full instances of Pretty Little Liars within our Movie Guide Dolls are everywhereNot only perform the twins within the opening scene fight on the toy, but Alison hides her initial threatening note in a single of her dolls. It's really no coincidence the summer time finale dedicated to the women getting tasks to satisfy from the as speaking dolls. Aria and Ezra's run-inThe scene Ian Harding suggested going to us wasn't difficult to find, however it would be a funny little jerk the pair formerly knocked into one another at Hollis before ever really meeting. Other fun things we observed- As Ms. Marin searched the newspaper job entries, she circled the ad for "Rosewood Bank branch manager" - where she presently works. - The women geeked-out over Noel Kahn, whereas description of how the think he's a creeper. -Alison attempted to become buddies with Jenna, but Jenna quipped, "I appreciate the sale, but I love to pick my very own buddies." The 9 Best Women's Sports Movies In Honor of The Mighty Macs
This weekend, Carla Gugino and Ellen Burstyn storm the multiplex with The Mighty Macs, an inspiring action drama about how women’s basketball coach Cathy Rush (Gugino) trained a small Catholic college team to unlikely victory in the ’70s. In celebration of this upcoming show of cinematic she-sportsmanship, Movieline has compiled (what we consider to be) the nine best women’s sports movies. National Velvet (1944) Director: Clarence Brown Stars: Elizabeth Taylor, Mickey Rooney and Donald Crisp Sport: Horse racing Why It Is Awesome: A 12-year-old Elizabeth Taylor stars as Velvet Brown, a spunky tomboy who comes into possession of an equally vivacious horse, Pie, and trains him for the Grand National steeplechase with the help of a hired hand, Mi (Mickey Rooney). After an unexpected turn of events, Velvet takes the place of her jockey and wins the race to the delight of the public who declares her a national treasure. Although Taylor’s star-making film isn’t as high-impact as the other sports films on its list, it features a fearless female willing to risk injury and exhaustion for victory for her precious Pie. Ice Castles (1978) Director: Donald Wrye Stars: Lynn-Holly Johnson, Robby Benson and Colleen Dewhurst Sport: Figure skating Why It Is Awesome: Scoff all you want but if you can’t be inspired by a beautiful, figure-skating heroine who must re-learn her passion after losing eyesight — only to perform a flawless program thanks to the support of her loved ones — then, I don’t know what to do. Other than to say that a packed arena will probably never stomp their feet in unison to get you on the ice so that they can adoringly hurl flowers at you. A League of Their Own (1992) Director: Penny Marshall Stars: Geena Davis, Lori Petty and Tom Hanks Sport: Baseball Why It Is Awesome: Comedy, drama, sibling tension, Tom Hanks playing an alcoholic, historical significance, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell in a skirt — this charming Penny Marshall feature about the All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League has it all. Even though we care more about spirit and fortitude on this list than actual “wins,” it’s worth noting that A League of Their Own is the most successful movie ranked here, having grossed over $130 million worldwide.

Cactus huggers
Garry Shandling and Mel Gibson flank the American Cinematheque honoree, Robert Downey Jr.
John Landis gives pointers to Jeffrey Katzenberg and Ron Meyer.
Joel Silver pairs off with Iron Man.Producer Susan Downey speaks onstage during The 25th American Cinematheque Award Honoring Robert Downey Jr. Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux
Second chances was the theme of Friday's American Cinematheque's gala honoring Robert Downey Jr. On a night when everyone referenced the honoree's notorious past and return to sobriety, Downey passed it forward with surprise guest Mel Gibson, who presented the trophy to RDJ. "Forgive my friend his trespasses and give him the same clear slate you gave me," Downey said. "He's hugged the cactus long enough" -- a reference to the term Gibson apparently used when he called Downey during his time of troubles. "So Robert, is this everything you hoped it would be?" Gibson asked when bestowing the award. "You're a good dude with a good heart." Jon Favreau said, "I met the new Robert and only know the new Robert. He's playing a plantation ownerQuentin Tarantino's passion for casting stars stars whose careers have switched somewhat lukewarm shows no symbol of abating: he's just hired Don Manley to are likely involved in Django Unchained.Manley look as Spencer Bennett, a wealthy plantation owner who runs several "ponies" or attractive black hookers. It's a very villainous role, and according to Deadline, it needed a few days of persuasion for Tarantino to convince Manley to think about it. But regardless of the deeper aspects, we're surprised Manley needed much effective, since his career has recently experienced straight-to-video fodder, indie movies and several truly dreadful wide releases, including A lot more Rome and Bucky Larson: Born to become Star. The dip was big enough that even Machete made an appearance being an improvement. In Django, the titular freed slave hero (Jamie Foxx) and fugitive hunter partner Schultz (Christoph Waltz) encounter Bennett when they're monitoring another guy, which he turns the tables inside it.Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Gerald McRaney and MC Gainey are actually all aboard for your film, which QT will begin shooting the next month.

My Week With Marilyn
'My Week With Marilyn'A Weinstein Co. (in U.S.) relieve a Weinstein Co., BBC Films, Trademark Films production. Produced by David Parfitt, Harvey Weinstein. Executive producers, Jamie Laurenson, Simon Curtis, Ivan Mactaggart, Christine Langan, Bob Weinstein, Kelly Carmichael. Co-producer, Mark Cooper. Co-executive producer, Colin Vaines. Directed by Simon Curtis. Script, Adrian Hodges, good journals by Colin Clark.Marilyn Monroe - Michelle Williams
Colin Clark - Eddie Redmayne
Laurence Olivier - Kenneth Branagh
Milton Greene - Dominic Cooper
Vivien Leigh - Julia Ormond
Lucy - Emma Watson
Sybil Thorndike - Judi Dench
Paula Strasberg - Zoe Wanamaker
Arthur Jacobs - Toby Manley
Owen Morshead - Derek Jacobi
Arthur Burns - Dougray ScottTo the extent that Michelle Williams' multilayered interpretation of Marilyn Monroe may serve as its raison d'etre, "My Week With Marilyn" works stunningly. Otherwise, the film flits uneasily between arch drawing-room comedy and foreshadowed tragedy as perceived by infatuated youthful Brit Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), recounting his personal encounters while using fragile screen icon through the shooting of 1957's "The Prince as well as the Showgirl." Taking no chances, unlike its star, "Marilyn" complacently shores on Williams' bravura perf among mostly stodgy showbiz re-works of art, but honours buzz and ever-reliable Anglophilia could spell solid B.O. returns for your Weinstein Co. The actual story itself feels ripped from film fan magazines in the period, as scribe Adrian Hodges and helmer Simon Curtis filter the proceedings through their protagonist/narrator, the youngest inside an upper-class number of intellectuals. Colin heads on London to use in the movie industry pooh-poohed by his elders, landing employment as third assistant director on "The Prince as well as the Showgirl," starring Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh), also helming the pic. It's through Clark's eyes that Monroe is introduced as she involves London the first time, based on new husband Arthur Burns (Dougray Scott). She proceeds to seduce and captivate the press, although no volume of charm produces Olivier, whose explosive ego seems ill appropriate for that task of placating director. Olivier's literal-minded belief in letter-perfect discipline conflicts with Monroe's more coddled Method acting, the professional various various insecurities of both stars -Body rising, one falling -- exacerbating the problem. Feeling dissed, abandoned and misunderstood in the strange land (her husband getting returned to NY), Monroe latches onto Colin as her champion and confidant ("How come Mister Ray so mean in my opinion? In .), somebody who supports her in the old guard. The Two share a sexually charged but innocent closeness, Colin apparently being the newest in the extended kind of such lads. Hodges' script deliberately contrasts the hidebound aristocracy in the British stage while using natural, untutored spontaneity of Hollywood sooner or later, Sybil Thorndike (Judi Dench) reminds Branagh's Olivier that, unlike them, Monroe knows how you can act for your camera. Ironically, then, "Marilyn" is simply too stagily directed by theater- and TV-trained Curtis, organizing his figures with no concentrate on spatial logic or rhythmic flow. Every moment, period detail, antique roadster or TWA passenger plane seems carefully placed for superficial authenticity despite the fact that this method sometimes plays effectively against Williams' constantly morphing performance, it leaves the film's non-Monroe sections hooked in artifice. Thesping is remarkably hit-or-miss, due to the roster of British luminaries Branagh's exclusive usage of theatrical rhetoric increases results in comedy moments in comparison towards the film's periodic attempts at emotional depth. Dench's performance is rousing but familiar Redmayne brings an exciting-eyed, puppy-dog eagerness to his role and standout Toby Manley strikes an infrequent eclectic note just like a loudmouth American press agent. Nevertheless the film would go to Williams, whose tour-p-pressure turn conflates three Marilyns: the lost, damaged youthful girl who seeks to leave others' anticipation and return to simpler childhood days the sexy celebrity who impishly poses getting a wink in complicity along with her public as well as the actress playing a pre-scripted part. The genius in the performance lies in the way Williams stresses the interconnectedness of individuals personas: The inadequacy fuels the impudence, the vulnerability turns sexually provocative, as well as the youthful girl and sexpot together drive the screen role. Thesp even endeavors into saucy singing and dancing a la Marilyn inside the pic's rasing and lowering amounts.Camera (color, widescreen), Ben Smithard editor, Adam Recht music, Conrad Pope music managers, Maggie Rodford, Dana Sano production designer, Donal Forest art director, Charmian Adams set decorator, Judy Farr costume designer, Jill Taylor appear (Dolby Digital/DTS), Richard Dyer supervisory appear editor, Nick Lowe re-recording mixers, Mike Dowson, Adam Scrivener effects supervisor, Mark Hold visual effects managers, Alan Chapel, Sheila Wickens casting, Deborah Aquila, Nina Gold, Tricia Forest. Dane Cook, Matt Saracen and Juliet from 'Lost' Made a Drama Together
Comedians are good at being funny (well, some of them, anyway), but sometimes they get really, really serious instead. Take Dane Cook. In his latest film, 'Answers to Nothing,' the arena-filling comic plays a cheating husband with a pregnant wife. Cook may be known for his crude humor, but you won't find any of that in this film -- at least, not in the trailer, which just premiered. According to IMDb, the film is an intertwining story featuring "lost souls throughout Los Angeles [who] search for meaning and redemption and affect each other in ways they don't always see" ('Crash,' anyone?). The movie also stars Juliet from 'Lost' (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Matt Saracen from 'Friday Night Lights' (Zach Gilford), so there's that. Check out Cook's dramatic turn below and judge for yourself. Nintendo, D'Works, 3Net pact for 3D fare
Nintendo is turning to Hollywood to help bolster the 3D content for its 3DS handheld gaming system. The game maker has announced partnerships with DreamWorks Animation for a pair of timed-exclusive digital shorts as well as with 3net, the joint venture between Discovery, Sony and Imax. Content from both studios became available this morning. DreamWorks is pairing with the company to provide two Halloween-themed shorts, one featuring the three little pigs from the ''Shrek'' movies, the other featuring characters from ''Monsters vs. Aliens''. The videos will premier on 3DS and be exclusive to the platform for a limited time. 3net will offer excerpted versions of their programming, but nothing exclusive to the platform. The deals represent another step by Nintendo to embrace non-gaming 3D content for the 3DS, which has struggled at retail since its March launch. (Nintendo has already cut the price of the handheld console , which lets viewers play games and watch video in stereoscopic 3D without the need for glasses - by $70 to stimulate the market.) Nintendo hand-selects 3D programming for a short-form video service on the system. That downloadable channel hosts material that ranges from game trailers and music videos to comedy shorts. Executives at the company note that games are still the chief focus, but it does recognize the need to offer more entertainment options if it wants to remain competitive. ''We're first and foremast a video game company, but we're not doing this [entertainment content channel] as a hobby either,'' says Tony Elison, head of Nintendo's Network Business Division. ''We're trying to make this as attractive a value as possible whether it's a game or video. The more smile-inducing and wow-inducing experiences we can bring to the platform, the better.'' Elison declined to give any numbers to quantify the success of the video service, but noted usage has exceeded the company's expectations. ''We've seen a very high rate of pickup on it - and the people who have downloaded it really engage with it on a week-to-week basis,'' he says. ''As we continue to add content, I think you're going to see the numbers increase.'' While the company has hinted at the ability to watch full 3D movies on the device in press conferences since announcing the system, it has yet to strike any deals with studios. The DreamWorks Animation deal could be a test balloon, though. And if the 3DS has a successful holiday (something that's far from certain, given recent sales trends), that could be the push studios need to expand their 3D offerings onto the system. ''We're working with the Hollywood community to create more 'Wow' experiences,'' says Elison. ''I think it will add up to making people happy.'' Fox Professional at VES Panel: We Thought James Franco's Character Should Die in 'Apes'
Tight postproduction agendas were within the hot chair, Saturday in the Visual Effects Society Production Summit in Beverly Hillsides.our editor recommendsVisual Effects Community Releases Bill of Rights'Justin Bieber: Never Say Never' Producer Stresses Need for Social Networking Throughout a panel discussion, Fox's leader of postproduction Ted Gagliano referred to postproduction on Rise from the Planet from the Apes and X-Males: Top Class-good examples of the items has turned into a frequent industry practice of finishing a film with an very tight deadline. PHOTOS: 'Rise from the Planet from the Apes' Start Looking: The Numerous Faces of Andy Serkis Talking about Apes, Gagliano related the filmmakers initially thought James Franco's character should die, then transformed that decision. He stated Franco travelled from New York to California over This summer fourth weekend to shoot an alternate goodbye using the ape Caesar (Andy Serkis). "We shot for 3 hrs and (Franco) was back on the flight,Inch Gagliano remembered, adding this change brought to some challenging final days of the items was initially a 41 week publish schedule that involved extensive visual effects work. The film opened up August 5. In another example, he related that X-Males: Top Class is at production until December 2010 but additional photography ongoing into April, producing a breakneck three-week publish schedule to provide a few of the reels and four week agenda for the rest of the reels from the movie. The film opened up June 3. Gagliano and Sean Wimmer, leader of physical production and Warner Bros., cautioned that developments in technology will help accelerate production and publish, but meeting due dates for unmovable release dates needs to begin with discipline. PHOTOS: 'Rise from the Planet from the Apes': Hollywood Premiere at Graumann's "It comes down to planning and discipline, whether that's a $200 million project, $a million project or $50,000 movie," Wimmer advised. "You need to stay with an agenda that begins in development completely through postproduction and distribution. Getting a script that's locked the ones are pleased with will simply assist the budget." Shifting towards the subject of digital distribution, Gagliano asserted that streaming is "about chance. ... however it begins with the standard from the movies that you're making. Another factor we actually want to institutionalize at Fox of these after marketplaces, is the significance of alternative moments and supplemental material. Laughing when faced with Dying: '50/50' together with other Terminal Illness Movies That Buck Convention
You'd think a movie of a youthful guy fighting a terminal disease is a huge downer -- a la 'Dying Young' -- but '50/50' isn't your average death's door tearjerker. The funny new flick offers plenty of laughs with the tender moments, and handles to find humor inside an incredibly depressing situation. Ernest Gordon-Levitt stars as Adam, a 27-year-old radio producer recognized getting an uncommon kind of cancer with a 50/50 survival rate. (Hence the title.) His nearest friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) becomes Adam's rock, driving him to doctor's visits and annoying him with nights out and about. Clearly, this isn't the first time Rogen has carried out a personality being careful of somebody facing a terminal disease. Remember 'Funny People'? Rogen dutifully hidden in Adam Sandler's ailing character each evening. However digress. To '50/50.' It's refreshing to find out a 'terminal illness' movie that's not some details concerning the doting lady nursing the person to health (cough, cough, 'Dying Young'), and ultimately leading in to a sappy, sappy, sad, sappy love story. Ultimately, it's really quite simple with this specific genre to acquire schmaltzy. (Cough, cough, 'A Walk to think about.A) Sure: 'Terms of Endearment' is a good movie, but everything relating to this seems carefully calculated to extract tears. If you're looking for something a little more subversive with a lot of inappropriate dying-related jokes, you might like to try one of these brilliant rather. Behold, all of the my five favorite movies about people fighting terminal illness. (Sorry, 'Last Holiday.' You didn't increase the risk for cut. When I like the premise from the Full Latifah laugh-riot, the flick itself falls very, very short. And even though I give 'The Bucket List' credit to make popular the old saying and coping with dying in the completely new way, watching Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman skydiving did less than make my top-5.) 'The Royal Tenenbaums.' Royal's stomach cancer is probably not real, however would still reason why this fits the 'terminal illness' genre because of how his alleged illness causes everyone around him to behave. Royal's fake cancer wins him a location inherited home, and garners attention from his estranged family. Sure, he'll get caught. But he got in a few much-needed face time with the family because the trick made it. &ampampampampampampampltcenter&ampampampampampampampgt 'Igby Goes Lower.' I am aware it may be a bit of the spoiler to exhibit who comes lower while using terminal illness in this flick, therefore i won't. I'll condition it made my list because of its refreshingly cynical approach to dying. Plenty of movies present the dying person as some type of perfect angel. Not that certain. (Bonuses for featuring Bill Pullman AND Rob Goldblum. Extra bonuses for seeing Kieran Culkin yell 'Sookie!!' to Claire Danes years before Bill and Eric handled to obtain very popular on 'True Blood stream.') &ampampampampampampltcenter&ampampampampampampgt 'Beaches.' OK, it's a little schmaltzy. But Bette Midler saves 'Beaches' from being too syrupy sweet. Her dying Closest friend of three decades, Hillary, was kind of a wealthy bitch sometimes, but ultimately their friendship could endure disloyality, jealousy or perhaps a bizarre love triangular. The Divine One reaches share Hillary's last moments along with her at the lake. Like '50/50,' this is often a touching story about friendship. Plus, it's the flick that introduced us 'The Wind Beneath My Wings.' &ampampampampampltcenter&ampampampampampgt 'Moulin Rouge.' It figures Satine (Nicole Kidman) would fulfill the guy of her dreams (Ewan McGregor) before falling ill with TB! (The old-timey disease is a superb indication this super-stylized movie is indeed a period piece.) Even though you will discover plenty of professions of great love, the singing, dancing and John Leguizamo keep 'Moulin Rouge' from being another tragic love story. &ampampampampltcenter&ampampampampgt 'My Existence Without Me.' As if being recognized getting a terminal illness last year . wasn't bad enough, Ann (Sarah Polley) also provides a husband (Scott Speedman) and a pair of kids. Damn! She embarks by hand bucket-listy journey, including some steamy encounters with Mark Ruffalo. Again, that certain scores points for eschewing the whole dying-person-can-do-no-wrong trap. &ampampampltcenter&ampampampgt ('50/50' image because of Summit Entertainment)
